What is the series about?
This series was one of my top favourites, everything about it is wholesome. As of date there are only two seasons aired. The first and second season has 12 episodes, each episode is 22 to 24 minutes long.
The stars of the series are Wakana Gojo and Marin Kitagawa who are classmates in high school. The story starts with Wakana talking about his interest in Hina doll crafting. He feels that it’s weird for boys to make dolls, therefore he isolates himself socially.
As the story progresses, Marin accidentally discovers that Wakana can sew clothes. She proceeds to express how much she likes cosplay. She tells him about her favourite characters, and shows him a dress that she tried to make. She wanted to cosplay as Kuroe Shizuku or (Shizuku-tan).
According to Wakana’s standards, it was poorly made. He told her what she should pay attention to when making a dress. Then she asked him to make a cosplay dress for her, and he agreed to help her.
Watching them bond together by working on making a cosplay costume is wholesome. Seeing how their relationship develops reminds me of good memories during my teen years.
Wakana Gojo personality:
Wakana is an introverted high school boy who enjoys making hina dolls. He lives with his grandfather, they own a hina dolls business. In the first season he said to Marin that he helps make clothes for the hina dolls but he is still not skilled enough to make the doll’s head.
Regarding his characteristics, he is a people pleaser, pushover, shy, and hides his feelings. He has little to no self esteem, and doesn’t always believe in himself. He is always worried about something.
Regarding his style, he is a bit old fashioned or conservative. His best qualities are that he is responsible, hard worker, reliable and kind. He is a good cook, and likes traditional healthy Japanese dishes.
Marin Kitagawa personality:
Marin is a super cheerful person, she is social and has tons of friends. At school, she is always the center of attention. Even though she is popular, she is actually humble and treats everyone as an equal. Her favorite hobbies are anime, cosplay, manga and gaming. She works part time jobs to save enough for cosplaying.
She is obsessed with a character called Kuroe Shizuku or (Shizuku-tan) as she likes to call her. Shizuku-tan is a fictional character from a pervy game called (slippery girls 2). It is interesting to see an anime girl in a male dominated field lol. Usually, in some anime you’ll see that the old men will do pervy behaviours.
She is not afraid of showing off her body, and doesn’t get embarrassed about showing extra skin. She is confident and comfortable in her own skin. Most of the time she doesn’t get shy when Wakana sees her in revealing clothes.
Their friendship/relationship?
Their characteristics are not similar but somehow it is what brings them closer.
Marin is such a considerate person, even when Wakana was running away from her and hiding, she didn’t misunderstand him. She kept following her demanding answers and whatever was wrong she would always solve it.
Likewise, When Marin shares her interests with Wakana, he was playing the games she was talking about, reading the manga she liked and watching makeup tutorials to elevate her cosplay results. He showed an immense amount of care and values everything she cares about.
She saw a shy guy and pushed him out of his comfort zone by always inviting him to places.
She gave him a social life and appreciated him for who he truly is. She never judged him for crafting hina dolls and he never judged her on her odd game choices or her cosplay outfit choices.
Wakana’s skills have improved a lot with hina dolls making and designing clothes too. A lot more opportunities opened up for him as well. He no longer feels invisible anymore with her around. She feels understood and she finally found someone genuinely interested in her hobbies.
Who should be watching this series?
It is perfect for people who like a chill calm slice of life type of anime. It is for people who appreciate character development and slow relationship buildup.
It is interesting because while I was watching one of the episodes, I saw a comment. It was by a viewer who said that they wouldn’t watch this anime again because it made him feel lonely and sad.
You can be jealous of Marin and Wakana’s relationship, thinking negatively it will never happen to you. But you also can be optimistic and focus on yourself, have some hobbies, leave the house often , join clubs or communities and you might be able to find your special person!
